Dukan Diet is a method of losing weight very appreciated by lots of women all around the world. For those who know little about this diet, we can mention that: it was invented by the doctor Pierre Dukan about 30 years ago, as a solution to obesity. It became popular after being published in the book “Je ne sais pas maigrir” (“I don’t know how to lose weight”), bestseller of the year 2000.
Mainly, Dukan diet is based on proteins: meat, milk, eggs and as few as possible products containing carbohydrates.
Among the stars which have lost weight by applying this diet we should mention Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bunchen and the results are so spectacular that many ladies followed their example.
Anyway, it is important to know the advantages and also disadvantage that this diet has, before making a decision to apply it or not.
Advantages
It helps you losing weight and prevent obesity – which increases the risk of diabetes, hypertension, stroke.
Kilos disappear fast, from the first phase of the diet. In 10 days you may get rid of 1 kilo/day if you are motivated and ambitious enough.
You aren’t obliged to know by heart the number of calories of everything you eat. Doctor Dukan knew this better than anyone. The diet is designed to be applied for a long period of time; it will actually become a lifestyle. You will lose weight and maintain it, if you follow the diet strictly.
It is easy to follow the diet as it allows you to eat ,eat, milk, eggs so you don’t have to buy expensive products.
From the third phase of the diet, you are allowed to eat what you like, making the entire process easy.
It is a diet addressed to those who like eating, given the fact that you eat a lot of proteins rather than those preferring caloric restriction.
Disadvantages
Among the disadvantages that the consume of proteins in excess implies, we should mention: cholesterol level increase, fatigue, mood changes, migraines, constipation, the appearance of a sort of liver and kidney illness which leads to uncomfortable breath, strong urine smell.
In the first phase, you may have some nutritional problems, as some aliments you used to eat daily will be eliminated from your alimentation. For example fruits and vegetables are not allowed, so dietary supplements are recommended.
If you abandon the diet after you finish the first phase you may gain more weight than before you started the diet. You should think a lot before starting it and if you aren’t sure you will be able to follow strictly the Dukan Diet you’d better try another diet (doing sport, eating less and healthier).
Dukan Diet is not recommended to vegetarians, pregnant women or those that have different illnesses, such as at the kidneys or livers.
