Five simple methods to save a life
What would you do if you would prick yourself in a sharp piece of wood? Or if you would uproot a tooth? Or if one of your friends would suffer a strong allergic reaction? First help can make the difference between life and death. Even if you haven’t done a first help, there are some simple measures which can be learned by anyone for urgent situations.
Do not remove foreign objects inserted in the body. It happens often: a child who pricked himself with the pen, tragic car accidents, or someone is stabbed in front of you.
What can you do?
The doctor’s advice is to not remove foreign objects inserted in the body and call the emergency number. It may be that that object has affected an artery and the victim will bleed to death.
Do not use a tourniquet against the bleeding. Press on the affected part of the boy and don’t use a tourniquet unless you practiced it at a first help course.
Ask if someone has a pen with epinephrine in case of an allergic reaction. These kind of pens are easy to use even if you don’t have any experience. Don’t forget to call the emergency number.
Don’t clean a tore tooth. If you start doing this, you will also clean important structures of the tooth such as the nerves or the ligaments. Put the tooth in a glass of milk and go to emergency.
Don’t move anyone who has fallen from an eminence, as he can have some fractures or even worse some internal injuries. If the person has back or neck aches don’t allow her move. The spine can be tore and the victim can paralyse. Call the emergency number immediately.
